Theater West Virginia announces upcoming 2021 summer season
There’s something for everyone this summer at Cliffside Amphitheater like West Virginia Theater is resuming service after being closed for the first year in its history in 2020 due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
Theater West Virginia, founded in 1955, produces original works, beloved Broadway musicals and special summer nights under the stars at the Cliffside Amphitheater in Grandview in America’s newest National Park, the National Park and the New River Gorge Preserve near Beckley, West Virginia.Theater The 2021 West Virginia season kicks off with “Alice in Wonderland, a modern update to Lewis Carroll’s beloved classic.” Join Alice and reimagine Wonderland in this modern tale as she accidentally drops her cell phone down a rabbit hole and is immersed in a wacky fantasy land. Alice in Wonderland runs until July 3. The American Civil War drama “Honey in the Rock” has been performed exclusively at the Theater West Virginia since 1961. The show, which begins July 8 and continues through July 13, tells the story of the turbulent times of war between the states which led to the creation of the state of West Virginia as it separated from Virginia.For the first time in its history, Shakespeare is coming to the Theater West Virginia with the iconic love story ‘Romeo and Juliet’ on July 11, July 18 and July 25. The classic tale of Romeo and Juliet is based on the Montagues and the Capulets, the two Conflicting Families whose children meet and fall in love with ‘Tarzan’, based on Disney’s epic animated musical adventure and Tarzan of the Apes. by Edgar Rice Burrough, opens July 23, with performances continuing through July 31. Starring the breathtaking music of rock legend Phil Collins, the musical follows the life of Tarzan, raised by gorillas in West Africa, as he falls in love with Jane, while his entourage has other sinister projects. TWV’s 2021 season ends with a grand musical finale Sunday night, August 1, featuring the West Virginia native and winner of season six of “America’s Got Talent” on NBC TV Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. and his special guests The voices of classic soul, featuring former singers from The Temptations, The Platters, The Drifters and The Four Tops. Join Landau and these musical legends for a unique evening of musical memories and Motown Magic as Landau celebrates the 10th anniversary of his America’s Got Talent victory in his home state of West Virginia alongside his musical heroes. Audiences will be enthralled by an evening filled with number one hits from the four legendary bands and the Great American Songbook which is the soundtrack of our lives.All of Theater West Virginia’s productions take place in the magnificent 1,260-seat Cliffside Amphitheater in Grandview, in the United States’ newest National Park, New River Gorge National Park and Preserve in Beckley, West Virginia. Most performances start at 7:30 p.m. nightly with live music before the show at 6:45 p.m.
