Redesigned Lexus NX 2022 Gets Zippy Plug-In Hybrid Option, New Infotainment Setup
New powertrain options, a stylish new stance and a wide variety of new technologies take center stage with the debut of the Lexus NX 2022. The subcompact crossover model is seen as the entry into a new era of technology. electrification for the luxury branch of Toyota Motor Company. Lexus plans to introduce 20 new or updated vehicles by 2025. The 2022 NX is the first.
“The all-new Lexus NX sets a new standard in the luxury crossover market with cutting-edge innovations in electrified powertrains, infotainment, driving dynamics, style and safety,” said Vinay Shahani, Lexus vice president of marketing. “The 2022 NX includes the most technological vehicle changes since we launched Lexus 32 years ago.”
The new Lexus NX continues to sit between the larger Lexus RX and the smaller Lexus UX SUVs in the company’s lineup. It has similar proportions to its generational predecessor but its center of gravity has been lowered.
The new NX will be sold in plug-in hybrid variants NX 250, NX 350, NX 350h and NX 450h + with F Sport options available for select vehicles.
A new grille pattern consisting of large U-shaped blocks takes center stage on the non-F Sport versions of the NX’s face. L-shaped daytime running lights flank the grille. Buyers can upgrade to three-projector headlights.
The wide hips give the NX a new shapely posterior. The SUV’s tailgate bears a new “Lexus” badge in a new font that will not replace the traditional Lexus logo. Instead, the automaker uses typography to create a new brand signature. Above are full-width blade rear combination lights similar to those found on the Lexus IS and UX.
The redesigned NX will be available in a new exterior color scheme that includes Redline, Cloudburst Gray and Grecian Water tones. Lexus NX F Sport models are equipped with exclusive Ultra White, Obsidian and Ultra Sonic Blue Mica 2.0 options.
The base Lexus NX 250 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is available in both front and all-wheel drive and produces 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
Lexus is launching the NX 350 for the 2022 model year, equipping the model with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is also mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain develops 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, which achieves a 0-60 mph time, half a second faster than the NX 250.
In the new Lexus NX 350h, buyers get a combination of improved power and fuel economy. Power from the car’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder is added to two electric motors to produce 239 horsepower and get 36 mpg estimated by the manufacturer. However, the car is slightly slower than the NX 250 and 350. All-wheel drive is standard.
The new NX 450h + plug-in hybrid sits at the top of the subcompact crossover lineup. It combines battery power with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and hybrid transaxle to deliver a manufacturer-estimated all-electric range of 36 miles and a 6.0-second zero to 60 mph time. . A permanent all-wheel drive system is standard on the model.
The car accepts a charge of up to 240 volts and can be full in just two and a half hours using the available 6.6 kilowatt accelerated on-board charger. A 3.3 kilowatt charger is standard and increases the charging time to four and a half hours.
The Lexus Predictive Efficient Drive system uses the NX 450h + ‘s in-car navigation system to learn about the owner’s driving habits and combines this data with real-time traffic reports and road information to optimize fuel consumption.
The interior of the NX has been completely refined and modernized for this new generation. Additionally, Lexus has increased the vehicle’s ability to control road and powertrain noise.
In front of the driver is a new cockpit with a 7-inch driver information display that has a higher resolution than the outgoing model’s display. Buyers can add 10 inch head-up display to the SUV
After a decade of contention with critics and the buying public over its infotainment display and touchpad / mobile remote controller setup, the automaker is launching the new Lexus interface in the NX. The integrated multimedia system is available on the car’s 14-inch infotainment touchscreen. A 9.8-inch screen is standard. The Lexus interface is paired with technology that enables live updates, wireless charging, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectionless. Lexus has retained physical controls for some vital infotainment system functions.
Lexus is delivering its new themed ambient lighting in the 2022 NX. The technology gives the vehicle owner the flexibility to choose from 14 themes and 64 colors, bathing nature-inspired ambient lighting intended to “express fleeting emotions and evoke feelings inspired by nature”.
Newly designed heated front seats and available heated rear seats provide comfortable accommodation in tandem with increased head and leg room thanks to the car’s new architecture. There is more cargo space in the new NX than in the old one.
Interior colourways include black, black with rich cream, palomino, and Rioja NuLuxe red. All interior trim has been redesigned and options now include open-pore black wood and Black Prism, a Piano Black textured surface. A panoramic sunroof is available.
The luxury car maker introduces Lexus Safety System + 3.0 with the new model, making it standard across the board. Each vehicle also benefits from blind spot monitoring technology. New Safe Exit Assist technology works in a similar way to Hyundai’s eponymous feature to keep passengers and passers-by (pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles) out of harm’s way by detecting if a moving object is approaching the doors of the SUV.
The turbocharged and rechargeable NXs are available as Lexus NX F Sport models. These cars come with active variable suspension, front and rear performance shock absorbers, dark graphite aluminum badge, F Sport themed driver information display, sport seats, a Newly designed steering wheel, pedals and sill plates in aluminum. The cars come with a black and circuit red NuLuxe interior, a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen and ambient lighting.
The F Sport models stand out with their unique grille and front and rear bumpers. There are also color-matched mudguards and black roof racks (ornamental only).
Lexus will begin production of the 2022 NX in the third quarter of this year. Prices will be announced closer to the car’s date of sale.
