The American Legion’s deployment of the new MyLegion.org platform has been a big undertaking – millions of records have been transferred from the old system, while tens of thousands of lines of new code have been created. . The American Legion’s national IT staff are working diligently to resolve any reported issues with the new platform that are received from phone calls and email [email protected] American Legion IT staff keep members well informed when known issues have been resolved or when they are estimated to be resolved. George Lussier, of the Virginia Department, currently sits on the Legion’s IT Oversight Committee and the National Finance Commission. He shares why the transition to a new MyLegion.org platform had to be made to help the American Legion meet the needs of its members now and in the future.
“We have aging systems. We have systems that don’t talk to each other and share data that needs to be shared. The old systems are not working and are reaching an age where we can no longer support them. And when the project is complete, the American Legion will put in place a system that meets the needs of its members.
“It’s a learning experience for all of us. I just ask everyone to put up with it. It will improve and it will prevent us from multiple failures in the not too distant future with the systems we had in place.
A common issue reported to [email protected] is accessing the MyLegion.org account.
This registration error can be resolved by following the step by step instructions here. The email that National has on file with your membership record is the one that should be used to login or create a MyLegion.org profile. Do not share your email. Only one email can be registered as all MyLegion.org accounts are individual member accounts.

On Tuesday, May 25, the staff overseeing the transition of MyLegion.org will discuss some of these pressing known issues, when they will be resolved, account registration, membership processing and reporting. Lussier and the Virginia Department have created a team of a few department heads to be MyLegion.org’s point of contact for questions starting at the post level they are assembling and then in the field at national headquarters.
