Hole In the Wall Theater gears up for first live hearing since COVID-19 – NBC Connecticut
The easing of restrictions on Connecticut’s coronaviruses allowed live event venues and theaters to open their doors and welcome people inside.
The art industry, including the theater, has been hit by the pandemic. This forced places like the Hole In The Wall Theater in New Britain to close and changed their show line.
“We’ve done a number of virtual productions, but just the works we create, there’s nothing better than a live audience,” said Terrance Peters, one of the directors and show directors of the theater.
And that is exactly why the community theater is eager to once again welcome clients who want to see a performance and enjoy the arts.
“The feeling of having [a] Introducing myself and running is something I haven’t been able to do since the start of the pandemic, ”said Luis Marrero, vice president of Hole In The Wall Theater.
Despite the lifting of remaining restrictions in the state, the theater plans to keep a few safety protocols in place, including limited seat and mask requirements for those who are not vaccinated.
“We want you to be here but we want you to be safe, no show is worth getting sick,” said Peters.
In the meantime, the theater is trying to recruit local talent for one of their next shows.
Elnora Amenta started acting at the age of 10 and over the past year or so she wasn’t sure if she would be able to act again.
“As an actor living in a world with no theater or whatever, it’s like horrible because you don’t know what your future holds,” Amenta said.
On Friday night, a handful of seasoned actors and newcomers showed up for the chance to star in the play “Completeness.”
Theater leaders and performers tell NBC Connecticut they’re happy to remake what they love in front of a live audience.
“A lot of the scripts we’re doing here at Hole in the Wall rely on the energy that comes from that audience and the interaction with the cast,” said Peters.
The Hole in The Wall Theater’s first play with a live audience will take place on July 16. For more information, click here.
