The Carolina Panthers beefed up their defense heavily in a landmark 2020 NFL Draft, but what impact could that have on some veterans currently on the roster?
It was a draft that will go down in history for the Carolina Panthers. They may not have initially planned it. But using every choice on defense It was the first time an NFL team had done this with their new college hires.
Few would dispute that it was an absolute necessity being lack of depth enter the project. They spent a lot on attacking free agency and now have energetic young players on the other end of the field who have the ability to play multiple positions.
While this may be good for the Panthers’ long-term prospects as they rebuild, it begs the question for some of the more seasoned members on their roster. The franchise has parted ways with some influential people such as Cam Newton, James bradberry, and Mario addison this offseason. They were also rocked by retirement Perennial All-Pro Luke kuechly after eight seasons of immense production in Carolina.
If the 2020 class lives up to expectations from the start. This could create problems for some high income players who do not have the potential to hit the same cap. This may not be the case next season. But if the Panthers’ high-end rookies prove their worth, it will make things increasingly difficult for some current rookies.
Head coach Matt Rhule has made a real effort to rejuvenate this offseason. This is unlikely to come with immediate success in a hard-to-watch NFC South. But a rebuild is laying the groundwork and ridding the roster of overpaid gamers past their prime is still the best place to start.
